You’ve finally gotten the permission of your parents to own a pet—but it just seems like a dog or a cat doesn’t fit the bill. If you feel this way, you’re probably on the fast track to owning an exotic pet. If so, say hello to the Pygmy marmoset (pictured above). An article from Time Magazine provides more information:

Miniature Animals

“The pygmy marmoset is one of the world’s smallest monkey breeds. Grown ones weigh only 4 oz. to 5 oz. (110 g to 140 g) and grow to be a mere 6 in. (15 cm) long.

They live in the Amazon rain forest, where they do charming things like leap between trees and eat insects and tree sap. Pygmy marmosets have sharp teeth and claws, but they are relatively docile and a favorite in the exotic-pet trade.”

If this delightful ball of fur has already captured your heart, you’re probably already fishing for your credit card to purchase a Pygmy marmoset for sale. Before you commit to owning one, however, know that taking care of these cute critters is no walk in the park.

Pygmy marmosets can live for up to 20 years. At the same time, they are delicate creatures. As such, taking care of them is a long-term commitment. With that in mind, here are a few things you need to prepare before purchasing a pet marmoset monkey for sale:

A place to call home

Obviously, you’ll need a cage. Despite the Pygmy marmoset’s miniscule frame, you’ll want a big cage, at least 2 ½ ft. x 5 ft. x 4 ft. This gives the new member of your family plenty of space to roam around and get some exercise.

A new schedule

The little monkeys are very social creatures who demand a lot of time and attention. In many cases, this will require people in your home to adjust their schedules to keep the Pygmy marmoset company. Be sure to talk to everyone in your household about making the necessary changes to their respective schedules before you buy one.

A permit

As the Pygmy marmoset is an exotic animal, you’re legally required to obtain a special permit before you can own one. The application process varies for each state. For an accurate step-by-step application process, consult your state fish and game department.

When purchasing an exotic pet like the Pygmy marmoset, only do business with a reputable provider like Poggi’s Animal House. Experienced professionals can provide you with a well-loved animal, as well as more tips on how to take care of one properly.
