Dogs, cats, and fish are some of the most popular pets you can own, but there are other adorable critters that you can raise as part of your family. Take the petite, but lovable pygmy marmoset monkey; an article on the Huffington Post website dated November 18, 2014 shows just how charming the tiny primate is. The article reveals that the pygmy marmoset is the world’s smallest monkey, among other details:

Ninita the pygmy marmoset knows how to appreciate the simple things in life. Like her toothbrush, for instance, and actually, that’s about it — she really loves her toothbrush.

Ninita was born deaf and rescued by the Rare Species Conservatory Foundation in 2012 after her parents abandoned her as a baby. She’s been hand-reared ever since, and has developed a love for playing and toothbrushes which persists to this day:

According to the San Diego Zoo, pygmy marmosets are the world’s smallest monkey. When fully grown, they weigh about as much as a stick of butter.

Pygmy Marmoset Loves Her Toothbrush More Than Anything

Pygmy marmosets make ideal pets due to their small and cuddle-worthy looks. They are also not too difficult to feed, since the monkeys are omnivores and can be fed a variety of easy-to-procure food like fruits, eggs, cooked vegetables, crickets, and so on. Finding a cute pygmy marmoset for sale, however, can be a tough challenge due to the restrictions on selling the primate. Fortunately, there are certified breeders such as Poggi’s Animal House that sell pygmy marmosets that have been carefully raised and vaccinated.

Before purchasing a pygmy marmoset as a pet, you will want to contact the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) first; the department needs to conduct an inspection of both the animal and the breeder to ensure that you are legally obtaining a vaccinated marmoset monkey for sale that has been taken good care of. Only breeders certified by the USDA are cleared by the APHIS to sell the monkeys. You might also want to prepare a sturdy cage for the marmoset beforehand, so that the primate can be properly supervised. Once you obtain your marmoset, you would do well to feed it a proper diet by rotating among different fruits and vegetables, with the occasional whole grain product and insect as well.
